I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy a good brunch on the weekend, but far fewer people seem to be aware of how satisfying it can be to make brunch at home. First of all, you can just show up in pjs. Secondly, it is a great way to spend time with family.
There have been a lot of public service campaigns about shutting off the television and sitting down to dinner. I find this sad, because it seems to me that if families don’t even eat dinner together anymore, then the chances that they sit down as a family to breakfast or lunch are probably pretty nil.
What’s the point of all these ridiculously expensive new houses being built with gorgeous, state of the art kitchens if everyone is too busy to enjoy them? It is fun to cook for a houseful of people, and then sit down to a beautiful and quiet meal. Now, I like to eat out as much as the next person, but it is not the same as eating at home. When you are in the comfort of your own home, you are not trying to talk over the other 100 people dining in the same room as you. You can leisurely finish you meal since you aren’t being manipulated to marathon eat due to the fast paced music is moving you along and the fact that you can tell the waitress is impatient to flip the table.
Wouldn’t it be great if we were all comfortable enough cooking and eating in our own beautiful homes that making brunch on a Saturday morning was just as wonderful as going out to a restaurant?
