My jean rag rug is finally completed and sitting prettily in our bedroom. Waking up and stepping out of bed onto the nice warm rug is much better than stepping directly onto the beautiful but cold hardwood floor. The rug is nice and thick, so it is also a favorite for sleeping kitties.
I love the thickness and sturdiness of this rug. It feels like an heirloom already; it is beautiful to look at and it is good and strong. One of the nice things about using old jeans is that they are so durable that I can imagine the rug will be around for many years. The other nice thing about using old jeans is that the materials that went into my rug would have probably ended up in a landfill, but instead have been used to create something wonderful, warm, and will be appreciated for decades to come.
All told, the rug probably took about 15 hours and 7 pairs of jeans to complete. Part of that time though was spent teaching myself to crochet, and it took me a while to get the hang of it enough that I could do it without thinking about each step.

Dear Becca,
How beautiful!! The rug looks wonderful next to your lovely quilt. Did you make the quilt also? You should send this picture to Martha Stewart.
Love you, Gramme
Grammy,
Thank you! I’m so glad you like the rug. I wish I could claim responsibility for making my quilt, but I’m afraid that someone in China did that. I do have a queen sized quilt that I’ve been working on for a couple years, but it is slow work.
gorgeous! 🙂 congrats! now if I could just finish that macrame purse I started in the fifth grade….
That is beautiful!

What a cool idea!
I love your rug! I’ve done some crafting with recycled denim and I know how much time and effort you must have put into this lovely creation. You’ll have to try my denim rag bag now that you have crocheted with the denim strips. You’ll be hooked on crocheting!
Cindy, I checked out your bag and I love it! You’re right, that should be easy to make after all that work on the rag rug. I think that I will try it out as I’ve been looking for a purse.
Thanks for sharing. The love that you put into the rug makes it time well spent.
seeing your rug has inspired me to make one. i am almost finished and i allready plan to start another one.
